pretty sure that happened against the packers during the regular season. and it was a 4th and 18, who punts on third moron?

It’s called a typo, moron. And it happened in the AFC Champ Game.

    Thank you, come again.

  2. RexCanCoach says:

Giant fans better pray that they don’t need a big punt in 4th quarter of the super bowl this Sunday by Weatherford…

Glad to have Westoff back, hopefully he can straighten out the problems on special teams.

Cheater and NOT a Patriot………Just Sayin’

  4. clavette says:

Too bad Weatherford didn’t take it upon himself to fake a punt on a 3rd and 20 last weekend, like he did for the Jets in the AFC Championship Game last season.

Those of you ripping on Mike Westhoff are just displaying your football IQ.

If you knew the first thing about football you’d know that Westhoff is at least one of the top three special teams coaches in the history of NFL.

As far as his comments about his comments about the Patriots and the Alosi incident, I see that pastabelly conveniently left out the fact that PFT posted the footage proving that the Patriots had staff lined up exactly as Westhoff indicated.

While it doesn’t make the incident any less detestable, it was a true statement.
    ================================
I didn’t leave it out because it was not important, at least to the league, who fined him $100K. The Patriots may not get out of the way of gunners. But they don’t do what Alosi did and trip them. That was freaking over the top and dangerous. Wethoff and the Jets have a culture of yapping. It blew up on them this year. The collective bunch of them should all tone it down a bit.

Sal Alosi is actually the strength coach for UCLA

  7. cubano76 says:

Mike Westhoff invented the onside kick, the internet, facebook and global warming. Just another genius coach for the NY Jets.

  8. nflwatcher says:

Good thing they just gave him a 1 year contract as Rex Ryan will be fired after the 2012 season.

Bring back the whole crowd of 2011 Jets! They did the job, so why not?

The guy flamed out late in the season and couldn’t put a punt inside the 20 in the playoffs if his life depended on it.

Congrats on the SB Steve, but you sucked it up in green late last season.

  12. meepein says:

From what I can see, Westhoff is the only competent coach on the Jets. He might be up for HC next year when they fire Rex.

  13. chadmurdigan says:

After seeing this guy rant and rave at players on Hard Knocks, I wouldn’t want him as a coach. Tough and honest is good but volcanic and mean rarely gets the best out of most athletes, near as I can tell. Just ask the softened up Tom Coughlin. When Tom ratcheted it down a couple of notches his win record went way up.

  14. pastabelly says:

Westhoff was the one who was fined $100K by the league and ordered to apologize (to Stephen Ross and Robert Kraft) after the Alosi incident when he said the Patriots and Dolphins were cheating the same way. So, he is a bigmouth who fits right in with that organization.

In an organization where talking the talk is FAR more important than walking the walk, the old blathering never-played-a-down hater is in the perfect place.

  16. bsandcs says:

this is the guy who claims he invented the onside kick.

are you surprised he’s a jet?

  17. east96st says:

Any word on whether Weatherford left a Super Bowl ticket for Westhoff with the message “This is as close as you’ll get”?

  18. sledgehorn says:

You guys are thinking of the wrong dude.
Sal Alosi was the one who tripped the gunner.
He got suspended/fired and fined some serious coinage, like $25,000. Hasn’t returned to any team since…

  19. patriotinvasion says:

    Mike West-a-cheat?

Voluble? I guess we know Ggreg got a thesaurus for Hannukah.

  22. joetoronto says:

Isn’t this the mofo who stuck his foot out and tripped a player at the sidelines?
