One of the biggest questions going into New York Jets Camp, if not the biggest, is if Darrelle Revis [@Revis24] will holding out if he doesn’t receive a new contract.  There have been many subtle clues, so let’s piece the puzzle together and then you can come to your opinion if you think Revis will in fact hold out!

Clue #1:  Darrelle Revis’ Manager John Geiger [@geigergeiger] put out this interesting tweet yesterday:

  1. John Geiger
GeigerGeiger Laying off twitter for a couple days, hope everything works out!

Jets Twit’s Take: Sounds to me like it is crunch time between Revis’ agents and Mr. T, and they do not need any distractions, so John is laying low.  Why else would he stay off of twitter.  With camp looming, people know that they [@Revis24] and [@geigergeiger] are two options to pose their questions.  If they are not around, they won’t have to worry about it.  By announcing it, John is saying don’t bother to bug me about the contract issues.

The key word in his tweet is HOPE. WikiPedia defines hope as:

Hope is a belief in a positive outcome related to events and circumstances in one’s life.

In this case “One’s Life” is actually Darrelle Revis’ life.

Clue #2:  On the show Jets Nation, Darrelle Revis is not Listed as a potential star of “Hard Knocks”

Darrelle Revis IS A HUGE star! Where are his Odds? Photo: SNY Jets Nation

Why wouldn’t SNY put the odds for Darrelle Revis.  He’s probably their biggest star next to Rex and Sanchez.  Maybe the odds would be too great.  No one knows if Revis is going to show up for camp, and the people putting together this graphic did the right thing by leaving him off.  It gets fans talking and writing posts like this about it!

Clue #3:  Revis’ Holdout back in June began on the same day HBO Hard Knocks Started Filming.

PFT, has many theories which are interesting:

1. The timed commencement of Revis’ holdout indicates that his intent is to continue his holdout into training camp.  Hard Knocks doesn’t air until August 11.

2. Revis’ agent is using HBO to make his client’s desire for a new contract as public as possible.  The Jets don’t exactly have a great reputation for extending their young players’ contracts.  All-Pro center Nick Mangold is also in search of a lucrative pay day, and is deserving.  The Jets’ failure to appease their disgruntled youngsters might make the organization look bad in front of a massive audience, spurring G.M. Mike Tannenbaum into action.

3. A conspiracy theory: HBO is working with Revis to pump up its ratings.  Hard Knocks always needs a good story.  Revis is the game’s premier cover cornerback, and possibly the best young defender in the league.  His displeasure with the Jets’ front office is intriguing.

So, if you were to ask me TODAY, if Revis will be holding out from Training camp starting Monday, my answer is….. YES.
