A recent ESPN “Word On The Street” segment interviews sports writers for both the New York Jets and the San Diego Chargers about their feelings on the big game coming up this Sunday.
New York Newsday Jets beat writer Rod Boone talks a bit about the upcoming Divisional playoff game against the San Diego Chargers. Rod notes how much rookie QB Mark Sanchez has matured in his role, allowing himself to rely on his league leading running game. Rod surmises that the key to the game rests with Sanchez’s play on the field. Should Sanchez go out there and become a turn over machine, then it is safe to say the game will end poorly for Rex Ryan and crew.
The Chargers beat writer, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union Tribune, points out the fact that Philip Rivers has a great QB rating against the blitz. Rivers has been blitzed nearly 200 times this regular season and maintained a QB rating of 103.7 which is only a few points under his normal rating. Acee also notes that Rivers managed to pass for over 400 yards against the Baltimore Ravens who run a similar defense. In a nutshell, Acee believes that the Chargers will be able to handle the blitzing onslaught the jets are sure to bring to town.
All in all, this looks to be an exciting game for both San Diego and New York fans alike.
