Genius runs out for New England Patriots

There was a time not long ago when Bill Belichick could roll his giant brain onto the field and the world would salute, bowing to his relentless, omnipotent genius. If those days weren’t already gone, then they probably passed away for good at Gillette Stadium Sunday as former Rutgers star Ray Rice bulled his way into the end zone for a three-touchdown Ravens lead – with nearly four minutes left in the first quarter.

Confident Jets soar into second round of playoffs

Rex Ryan has the New York Jets’ playoff itinerary all mapped out. Next week, the divisional round. The following week, the AFC championship. Two weeks later, the Super Bowl. And on Feb. 9, the victory parade. “It breaks down to this: If we can win three games, we are world champions,” Ryan said Sunday. A bit presumptuous, sure, but Ryan has been confident about his team all season. After a 24-14 victory over Cincinnati on Saturday, the Jets coach isn’t about to stop now.

New York Jets must seize the day as they get ready for San Diego Chargers

In a perfect world for the Jets, here’s what happens this weekend: The Ravens beat the Colts, the Jets beat the Chargers and the AFC Championship Game is played at the Meadowlands. “That would be great,” Rex Ryan said Sunday. The Jets are in the final eight, which means they are in way too deep and too close to the big prize to ever say they are playing with house money, which is sure to be the talk around town this week since they have already far exceeded expectations with a rookie coach and rookie quarterback.

Mark Sanchez’s success as rookie with New York Jets proves former coach Pete Carroll wrong

Not long after Mark Sanchez won his first playoff game, the Jets’ rookie quarterback received a thunderous ovation from his teammates on the team bus heading to the Cincinnati airport. Kicker and emergency punting hero Jay Feely stood up and read Sanchez’s quotes tweaking his former USC coach, Pete Carroll, in his postgame press conference.

Rex Ryan maps out New York Jets’ next month

The Jets’ charter flight home from Cincinnati was decorated with green and white balloons, streamers and congratulatory poster boards. A nice touch, for sure, but nothing compared to what Rex Ryan has in mind for Feb. 9. A Super Bowl victory parade up the Canyon of Heroes.
