Check out today’s morning buzz…
Bengals’ Chad Ochocinco praises Jets’ Darrelle Revis – The clown nose is off. The game face is on. Chad Ochocinco may not be done tweeting but he is done talking, and on that count he is a lot better in the regular season than he is in the playoffs.
Jets’ Mark Sanchez to get blast from past in wild-card game – Mark Sanchez was a ball boy for his older brother’s high school football team, providing entry into a fantasy world. He rode the team bus to games, served as a go-fer at practices and tagged along with players to local burger joints, dreaming the whole time about growing up to be just like the team’s star quarterback.
Former Giants linebacker Pepper Johnson could be Big Blue’s next defensive coordinator – Pepper Johnson, the former Giants linebacker and current Patriots defensive line coach, is not only a possible candidate, he would also be “very interested” in the job, according to two people familiar with his thinking. He has never been a defensive coordinator, but he has won two Super Bowl rings as a player and three as a Patriots assistant.
Jets know to keep death of owner Woody Johnson’s daughter Casey off the gridiron – Woody Johnson was there late Sunday night, trotting a victory lap around the field with his players, shaking hands and looking very much like a man on a great roll. The Jets were in the playoffs. The coach he had hand-picked, Rex Ryan, was the toast of the city, and for once the Giants didn’t own Giants Stadium. Everybody knows now what happened next, or at least understands the bones of the story. Johnson’s troubled daughter, Casey, died at the age of 30 in West Hollywood.
Jets rookie QB Sanchez preparing for playoff debut – Mark Sanchez was debating his future this time a year ago. The heralded quarterback had just led Southern California to a Rose Bowl victory over Penn State, and was constantly being asked the same question: Are you staying in school or going to the NFL? He went with his heart and chose the pros, and now he’s got the New York Jets in the playoffs in his rookie season with a first-round game at Cincinnati on Saturday.
