New Orlean Saint LB Jonathon Vilma was less than impressed with New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez who was flagged for throwing an illegal block to Vilma’s knees. Vilma expressed surprise when asked about the play after the game.
“Actually, I was surprised he (cut me),” Vilma said in the Saints locker room. “I was very surprised. I don’t know what he was doing, to be honest with you. I saw him, and thought he was just trying to buy time, and then he goes and cuts me. It was kind of dirty, and he got the penalty for it.” – LB Jonathan Vilma
I hate to say it but…it kinda was. I don’t think it was an intentional “let me try and hurt this guy” play but I definitely think Sanchez should know better. I just really hope this wasn’t a warning flag about his maturity level.
The cut block to Vilma’s knees came after Sanchez launched a redzone interception to Darren Sharper who ran it back 99 yards for the touchdown. I know getting picked right on the cusp of a scoring drive has got to be maddening for the competitive breed that is an NFL quarterback but you just can’t take your frustration out like that. I truly hope it was just a momentary lapse in reason for the young qb.
