2009 New York Jets – The Start Of A New Era

(Photo by Nick Laham/Getty Images)I’m so excited as I sit here waiting for New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez to take the field. The 22 year old is about to be the first rookie QB to start for the team since 1977 and the first rookie to ever start week 1 of the season.

The buzz surrounding Mark Sanchez has been droning on for months now and the anticipation has just about killed me. I have been pretty open and vocal in my support for this young man and now as a new era for my favorite begins I am giddy like a school boy.

It’s not just about Mark Sanchez. There is also new head coach Rex Ryan and his promise of a “swaggerlicious” defense. With ex-Ravens’ LB Bart Scott, S Jim Leonhard and DE Marques Douglas in tow Rex Ryan has all of New York bristling with anticipation of how this new defense might perform.

I see this being a great year for us defensively. This, I admit, is based entirely on my completely biased fan gut. I love the tough talk and swagger Ryan has brought with him and I personally feel you can see this reflected in the players already. Sure, they’ll need some time to get it together and heck, they may even look a little lost on occasion but mark my words…this defense will be damn good.

I remain fairly confident on how the season will turn out. I expect good play mixed in with some mistakes on offense but I truly believe the good will outweigh the bad.

To Jets fans everywhere, I hope you are all about to witness the start of a whole new era in the history of our team. An era of winning and respect for a New York Jets team that has been sorely lacking for far too long.
