You bring up some good and valid points but I think I can answer all your questions and/or reservations by answering your last question.

"Are the Jets REALLY in a spot where it would be better to be with him than without him??"

In a word...YES! This team is on the cusp of being an elite squad in the league, but not until they solve a couple of issues. Chief among them are 2 holes in the offense. We already have a QB cadre, that is inexperienced at best, throwing the rock to a wr corps that is equally inexperienced. Now add in the fact that we let our ONLY experienced blocking TE go to our biggest rival and this team is equally on the verge of a total offensive collapse.

To top all this off the Jets are playing games with negotiating new contracts for not one but BOTH of our running backs....each of whom happens to be among the best in the biz at what they do and things are looking to be getting uglier and not better.

Plax doesn't address all those issues but his addition would be a HUGE factor that pushes them closer to success than it does failure....and thats considering all his baggage.

The Jets need a lot of help despite all of the fans posturing.

Hmmm... good points, but I'd beg to differ on a couple of things.

First, Sports media is bigger in NY than in Pittsburgh.. and that just highlights the distractions that come along with a guy like Burress. Love him or hate him, the media is going to be talking, and that amplifies the distractions of any of his other issues. And honestly, the "locker room" may be strong enough to deal with him, but what about team leadership? I'm not quite sure that they're ready for him, either.

Secondly, even with a one year contract, how do you guarantee he's going to be there all the way through till February? Obviously, any athleet is a single mis-step or hit away from a season-ending injury, so I'm not talking about that. I'm referring to the fact that Burress tends to attract controversy, if not legal trouble, no matter where he goes. Is he capable of keeping his nose clean enough to stay completely out of trouble for the whole season? If not, how long will the team hang on to him? And even if he DOES keep his nose clean, who's to say that he won't be yanked back for legal proceedings at any given point? The powers that be may decide to let him be available enough to play.. but I doubt they'd guarantee that they would postpone any and all potential actions until after the Superbowl... How can you build a team counting on a talent like that with the added potential for having him become unavailable at the drop of a hat? Is it worth the price tag? Are the Jets REALLY in a spot where it would be better to be with him than without him??
