NY Jets QB Mark Sanchez; Who Is He?

Posted by Xander Diaz On April - 27 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

In the days leading up to the NFL draft, I was as confused about the Jets draft possibilities as a new born in a topless bar. Do they take USC QB Mark Sanchez, gambling the farm to get him in the process? Do we stick to Kellen Clemens, knowing full well he has not impressed in 3 seasons, and go after a blocking tight-end like Brendon Pettigrew or a wide out like Percy Harvin?

Just before the big day, I shot myself in the foot by announcing that any one who thought the Jets would or could draft Sanchez was ‘delusional’. I guess we’re all crazy now. Read the rest of this entry »

Good For You, Tony Gonzalez

Posted by Rob N. On April - 24 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

I have to admit that I am happy for Tony Gonzalez. He finally got the trade he so desperately wanted and it’s to a team that must be jumping for joy to get him. He’s the rare professional athlete that not only performs at an extreme level, but seems to appreciate everything he has, cont... Read More

Jets To Draft Sanchez? Don’t Bet On It!

Posted by Xander Diaz On April - 23 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

Can The Jets Land USC Quarterback Mark Sabchez In The 2009 NFL Draft?

Surfing around the web today I was hit by an epiphany of sorts. Anyone who thinks the Jets have a shot at nabbing QB Mark Sanchez is basically delusional. All this talk and debate about Mark Sanchez and the Jets is just never going to happen.

Never, ever.

Over the last week, the fervor over Sanchez has grown to a fever pitch, raising the USC QB’s draft stock to titantic proportions. Clifton Brown, reporting for the SportingNews.com, claims no less than six teams are courting the former Southern Cal quarterback. The Seattle Seahawks, Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars are eyeing Sanchez with top 10 picks in hand. Add to that list the Denver Broncos, Washington Redskins and New York Jets, all of whom may be more desperate and willing to trade up into the top five to get him. Read the rest of this entry »

Dave Hutchinson, reporter for The Star-Ledger, is reporting today that the cost for the Jets to move up to the 8th spot in the draft to acquire USC QB Mark Sanchez is simply too high. In an article found on this morning’s Star-Ledger website, Dave predicts the Jets would have to give up their first round (17th over-all) pick as well as 2nd and 4th round picks to the Jacksonville Jaguars in order to position themselves at the 8th spot to hopefully get their man.

It is true that QB is not the only position in question in New York. Jets management foolishly let our only veteran TE, Chris Baker, go to ‘The Land Where Jets Players Go To Succeed’ (that’s New England for those not paying attention) & with Laveranues Coles gone to the Cincinnati Bengals, a speedy wide out that demands double coverage is sorely missing as well. In an interesting article in this Sunday’s Daily News, Rich Cimini makes some great points about how little over-all success the Jets have had selecting quarterbacks in the NFL draft. According to Rich, only 1 of the 15 QB’s selected by the Jets since the Joe Namath era have mustered a winning record as a full time starter for the Jets.

And who is that one? Chad Pennington. Yeah, that’s right, the guy we all couldn’t wait to put on the first available ‘Loser train’ out of the city. Ol’ Mr. Limp Wrist himself. Read the rest of this entry »
